Modal analysis is a tool for determining the modal parameters of objects, diagnostics as well as for validation (tuning numerical models).
In terms of determining the modal parameters, modal analysis can lead to establish solutions and modify the structure in a way to allow eigenfrequency shift or change their damping. Data for the modal analysis are obtained from the modal test ( for instance pulse test or test using white noise excitation)

Validation of numerical models using modal analysis
In the area of verification of numerical models the modal analysis is the most effective tool. Numerical model developed using finite element method can be validate by performing experimental modal analysis for the test object. Tests of this type are desirable in the case of modeling complex objects, where high accuracy of the result of analysis is required to compare with reality.
